  • Students will read and annotate Ch. 1 in class

  • Students finished going over 1984 PowerPoint
  • Teacher passed out books (to students who did not purchase them)
  • Students went over Socratic Seminar and Response Papers
  • Students read the first line of 1984: "It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen" (Orwell 1).
  • Students wrote a short in-class response paper answering "Why did Orwell start his novel off this way?"
  • Students discussed the connotation of April (spring), thirteen, and authorial intent of starting a novel in this way.
